What makes our olive oil special?
Our story
Hi, I’m Angelo Maiuri, CEO of Gustus. Our family comes from the Campania region of Southern Italy – a place of sun, fertile land, and centuries of traditions.
Our story begins in 1865 with Don Efisio, a distant relative of mine. He served as a marshal in the army of the Kingdom of Savoy, traveling across Southern Italy, keeping the peace, and along the way discovering a love for the land and its fruits. When he married the largest landowner in Cilento National Park, he and his wife began a small agricultural business that has been carried forward by the family ever since.
Today, Gustus continues that tradition through the production of organic, hand-picked extra virgin olive oil. Each bottle is a connection to generations past, to the care taken in every grove, and to the simple joy of sharing God’s gifts with others – now all over Europe.
About the territory
Our olives grow in Cilento National Park, on the hills that rise above the Mediterranean Sea. Here, every tree clings to a slope, there are no flat fields. Harvesting means climbing, carrying, and working against gravity. It is difficult work, but it is also honest work, and worth every effort.
The olive variety is Pisciottana, native to this land. It matures earlier than most, which is why our olives are not green when collected but darker, richer in tone.
Some of these trees have stood for centuries, quietly producing harvest after harvest. Generations of families have lived and worked here, trusting that each season would bring what was needed.
